Ryan Coogler And Michael B. Jordan Teaming Up For Apollo Creed Film
When a director finds his or her muse it’s a beautiful thing. Martin Scorsese has one in Leonardo DiCaprio, and Derek Cianfrance has his in Ryan Gosling. Now Ryan Coogler has found his promising muse in Michael B. Jordan.
When it was announced the two were teaming up for Fruitvale Station, people were curious, mostly because Coogler was a new director, and Michael B. Jordan was mostly known for his work on television. That curiosity is now sparking Oscar talk in a big way for both of the men.
What people didn’t expect when they heard of this pairing is the new project that might see Michael B. Jordan as Apollo Creed’s grandson. For those of you who don’t know Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers) was the heavyweight champion to beat in the Rocky films.
MGM studio is interested in pursuing this project, that can be easily seen as a spin-off of the Rocky films. It’s said that Sylvester Stallone will reprise his role as Rocky Balboa, as a retired-fighter-turned-trainer. Apollo’s grandson (Michael B. Jordan) is said to want to enter the ring, but has no one to teach him, and that’s where Rocky will come in, even though he’s initially hesitant about the whole thing.
According to Deadline, Coogler is really set to tell this story. When Coogler signed with agency WME, Coogler said the Apollo Creed story is one that was a dream for him to tell. The best part of this film is Stallone’s cooperation. Currently the actor is gearing up to stage a musical around the 1976 film Rocky.
Although this project doesn’t really seem necessary as there’s plenty boxing films out there, we can’t deny how good this sounds just because it means the reunion of an unstoppable team.
