Selena Gomez has confirmed Justin Bieber did not record the voicemail intro for her song “Love Will Remember.”
In an Entertainment Tonight interview which aired July 22, the same day Gomez turned 21, the star finally dealt with the voicemail debate.
“Um, that’s not real,” she said, replying to a direct query about Bieber.
“Love Will Remember” appears on Gomez’s just released album Stars Dance, although without the voicemail.
Hype about the intro which featured a cheesy, male voice declaring undying love to Gomez and — as IQ previously noted, sounded nothing like Bieber — bubbled online before her album drop.
It followed earlier hype when the starlet first revealed the song was about her on-off relationship with the Canadian.
“That’s the most personal track on the record, for sure,” Gomez told InStyle in May. “I think it’s a sweet way of releasing it. It’s not an aggressive approach to what people are probably expecting … I’m sure he’ll love it too.”
Because of that revelation and others such as the Latina’s European dash to see Bieber during his Believe tour, sightings of the pair when he returned to Los Angeles, Instagram malarkey, and more — ‘Jelena’ devotees and media alike speculated about Gomez’s seemingly very personalized decision to allow the voicemail to be heard.
As it turns out, unnecessarily, since Bieber isn’t on the song.
Quite why many outlets ran with the story after the 19-year-old’s rep said he wasn’t on the track weeks ago remains odd. But then, the ‘ Demi Lovato disses Bieber ,’ ‘ Britney Spears mentors Bieber,’ ‘ Singer’s manager wants star in rehab,’ ‘Photohoot rider bans Gomez music ,’ ‘ Gomez and Bieber reunite with conditions ,’ gossip items are still reported in some quarters despite being debunked — while in others, accusations at an allegation stage are casually reported as fact .
Moving on.
Having kicked off her milestone birthday at gal-pal Julianne Hough’s 20’s-themed Saturday bash at Hollywood’s Roosevelt Hotel, Gomez partied with friends at the Bagatelle bar and restaurant in L.A on the big day itself, and released a raucous-lite music video aptly called “Birthday.”
With her celebrations expected to continue until the weekend, one guy who won’t be invited to any of them is WGN’s showbiz critic/reporter Dean Richards. He found himself talking to a test screen after throwing a slew of Bieber questions at Gomez during a satellite interview on Monday.
As part of her Stars Dance media blitz, the ex-Disney star guested on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno last night.
Gomez wore a red and black Antonio Berardi dress for the interview part of her spot and admitted that she “had a shot of Jack [whiskey]” on her birthday. She turned up the risque factor to perform her latest single “Slow Down,” wearing black leather hot pants and Jimmy Choo strappy knee-high boots.
Well, she is 21. And single .
