Anthony Weiner’s Wife Remains Supportive Amid Sexting Scandals
Anthony Weiner’s wife, Huma Abedin, has remained supportive amid more than one sexting scandal. Weiner’s habit of sending and receiving sexually explicit text messages may have ruined his career. However, his marriage has remained intact.
In 2011 Weiner was forced to resign from Congress amid his first sexting scandal. He was accused of inappropriate online conversations with other women. Weiner was also accused of exchanging suggestive photos, and steamy texts, with the women he met online.
Weiner initially denied the allegations, suggesting that his account had been hacked. As the evidence against Weiner mounted, he eventually confessed.
As reported by Biography.com, Anthony Weiner resigned from Congress on June 16, 2011. He explained his decision to resign in a public statement:
“I am announcing my resignation from Congress so my colleagues can get back to work, my neighbors can choose a new representative and most important so that my wife and I can continue to heal from the damage I have caused.”
Weiner’s wife of one year was pregnant with the couple’s first child at the time of his resignation.
Anthony Weiner’s son was born in December 2011. He and his wife avoided the spotlight, and another scandal, for nearly two years.
In May 2013, Weiner announced his candidacy for mayor of New York City. He admitted his past mistakes, and asked voters for a “second chance.”
Now, two years after his first sexting scandal, new pictures and text messages have emerged. As reported by Baker City Herald, Weiner appeared in New York on Tuesday to face the new accusations. His wife stood by his side, demonstrating admirable strength.
During the public address, Weiner apologized once more for his behavior. He attempted to focus on the future of New York City, asking the public once again for a “second chance.”
Abedin never left his side. She stated that the sexting situation is a private matter, between she and her husband. She discussed her devotion to her husband and her marriage:
“I love him, I have forgiven him, I believe in him.”
