‘Wizard Of Oz’ Reimagined Once Again For SyFy
Soon you’ll have to stomach another Wizard Of Oz creation. This one comes from Timur Bekmambetov and will be the second reimaging by SyFy of the characters based on the L. Frank Baum series.
Bekmambetov, who brought us the bomb that was Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is set to reimagine Dorothy Gale and her friends she meets in the Land of Oz.
SyFy has already produced a few Wizard of Oz adaptations, but that’s not enough to shy them away from taking on the world yet again, especially from the fantastical mind of Bekmambetov.
The official synopsis for the new Wizard of Oz reads as follows:
“A warrior from present day Earth [who] is transported to a post-apocalyptic future Oz where he must team up with three other warriors, Heartless, Brainless, and Coward, in order to defeat the evil Wizard who has enslaved the land.”
So far SyFy has tackled Tin Man, which was a mini television series starring Zooey Deschanel as DG (Dorothy), Alan Cumming as Glitch, Neal McDonough as Wyatt Cain, and Kathleen Robertson as Azkadellia.
Timur Bekmambetov’s Wizard of Oz will be called Warriors of Oz. According to Deadline, the search is on for a scribe to pen Bekmambetov’s vision. In addition SyFy is set to introduce two mini-series which are currently in development. The network is ready to launch two four-hour projects, one based on Larry Niven’s Ringworld, and the other on Arthur C. Clarke’s Childhood’s End.
If you’re not digging the Wizard of Oz reimagining idea, then you can at least look forward to the sequel to Sharknado which SyFy has promised is on their slate for the future.
In addition SyFy is beefing up their television with 12 Monkeys, which will be an adaptation on the film of the same title.
