Thanos Confirmed To Appear In Guardians Of The Galaxy
Thanos’ confirmed appearance in Guardians Of The Galaxy was somewhat overshadowed by Zack Snyder’s announcement at Comic Con that Superman and Batman would finally share the big screen.
However, the super-villain promises to be a consistent thorn in the side of Marvel’s various superheroes, with many moviegoers predicating that his debut in James Gunn’s Guardians Of The Galaxy is only the tip of the cinematic iceberg.
Kevin Feige, the president of production at Marvel, confirmed to IGN that during their Hall H panel it was revealed that Thanos would appear in the 2014 epic, which is due out next August.
Feige stated, “I think somebody on the Guardians panel let loose that Thanos is a part of the movie, which he is. Thanos plays a part in Guardians, as the mastermind.”
He then added, “He very much exists on nearly another plane from any of the other characters and we have big plans for him over a long long time.”
At the panel, Gunn stated, “We have Thanos. Thanos is the thing connecting us to the rest of the Marvel Universe at this point. And in the future we’ll see what happens after this, but for right now, we’re connected to the rest of the Marvel Universe because we’re resetting the end of The Avengers.”
The Comic-Con panel for Guardians Of The Galaxy saw Gunn discuss the peculiar casting of Chris Pratt in the lead role too. Pratt has made a name for himself as the comedic foil in the likes of Parks And Recreation and The OC, and it is a big risk for Marvel to cast him as Star Lord.
Gunn stated that he wanted someone who could match Robert Downey Jnr’s performances as Tony Stark in the Iron Man trilogy, and he has the utmost confidence that Pratt is the perfect actor for the part.
