A Batman and Superman crossover is planned for Man of Steel 2 , but the film’s writers are still having a hard time coming up with a title.
Many fans were delighted when the Batman/Superman crossover was announced at Comic-Con this year (though there were some persuasive holdouts ), but it seems like beyond concept, the folks behind the film don’t have much to work with right now.
It’s almost like everyone decided “hey, wouldn’t this be a cool idea” five seconds before taking the stage in San Diego and pre-production was born right there.
According to writer David S. Goyer , the titles he’s currently playing with are Batman vs. Superman or Superman vs. Batman. The obvious World’s Finest wasn’t brought up. None of this inspires much confidence in the project.
“[That’s] the next film we’re making, we’re already in pre-production, [it] comes out in summer of 2015,” Goyer said at Comic-Con.
“We’re actually not sure whether the title is ‘Superman vs. Batman’ or ‘Batman vs. Superman’ but yes, it’s that rematch, that combination, the two guys onscreen and that’s happening.”
There was some speculation early Saturday that a Batman and Superman movie would be announced at Comic-Con, but we didn’t know for sure until that afternoon when director Zack Snyder announced it.
Man of Steel co-star Harry Lennix was enlisted to help with the announcement, and read a quote from Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns before a big image of Batman and Superman’s respective logos superimposed on top of each other hit the screen.

Despite the quote, Snyder said that the film won’t be based on Miller’s work.
Fun fact: Akiva Goldsman wrote a Batman vs. Superman script way back in 2002, which was pitched with Josh Hartnett in mind for Superman and Colin Farrell for Batman. In it, Batman decided to fight Superman because his fiancee is killed by The Joker and Lex Luthor, and Superman is struggling with his divorce from Lois Lane.
Why yes, that does sound horrible. You can read the script here .
What do you think the title to the Batman vs. Superman film should be?
