Anthony Weiner Caught Sexting Again? Casting Doubt On Weinergate 2.0
So much for his political comeback. Anthony Weiner has been accused of exchanging lewd text messages with a young woman again. Brace yourselves for Weinergate 2.0, people.
The texts, allegedly exchanged between the former congressman and a 22-year-old woman a year after his forced resignation in 2011, were posted on The Dirty on Monday. The woman’s name is unknown, while Weiner apparently used the laughable pseudonym “Carlos Danger.”
Per The Dirty:
“She [the Anonymous woman] was lured by Anthony Weiner post scandal via Facebook. They had a relationship for 6 months and she believed they were in love. Anthony Weiner like a true sex predator promised Anonymous many things like a job at Politico and a condo in Chicago (a place they could meet up and have sex). The relationship consisted of Anthony Weiner and Anonymous sending sexually explicit pictures of each other and having sexual conversations via phone.”
Now, we should mention that nothing in The Dirty’s “exclusive” report really qualifies as hard evidence. Not that we’re stumping for Mr. Weiner here, but if you go looking for “silver bullet” stuff like tweets and emails, all you’re going to find is second-hand testimony and a picture of someone‘s penis.
Additionally, even if the correspondence is legitimate, we have no way of confirming that it took place when “Anonymous” said it did. For all we know, she could have been part of the original sexting scandal and just missed the bus the first time around.
Nik Richie’s claims aren’t much and, combined with his reputation, there’s plenty of room for doubt.
But both NYMag and Buzzfeed have reached out to Weiner’s campaign and are awaiting comment. If any of these allegations are true, they could seriously damage his ambitions of becoming New York City’s next mayor.
Update: Well, that was fast. Anthony Weiner has confirmed that the new photos and texts are his, but he has not yet specified when the correspondence took place. Sorry for doubting you, Nik.
