‘The Wolverine’ Will Be ‘Bloodier’ On Blu-Ray
If you’re unhappy with the level of carnage in James Mangold’s The Wolverine, then you’ll probably want to pick up the flick when it arrives on Blu-ray.
Since Wolverine fans are a blood-thirsty lot, the upcoming PG-13 adventure may not be as gory as they had hoped. In order to please everyone, Mangold said he intends to release a more violent version of the movie on home video later this year.
“I’m very happy with the [theatrical] cut. The studio was very generous in terms of letting me finish the movie as I wanted. But I do think we will have a slightly more violent version. An unrated, a bloodier version,” Mangold explained to Digital Spy.
The director explained that around ten minutes worth of footage from The Wolverine hit the cutting room floor. Mangold added that fans will “love” some of the stuff that didn’t make it into the theatrical cut of the film.
“We’ll produce some kind of longer version of the movie at some point on Blu-ray. There’s another great scene with Hiro Sanada and a much more elaborate battle with ninjas from the third act that is a pretty huge battle sequence that you’ll see,” he said.
Although Mangold stated that he’s happy with the PG-13 version of The Wolverine, it’s starting to sound like the Blu-ray cut will be the superior version. In other words, saving your money for the extended version might be the way to go.
Based on the popular comic book arc, the film finds the title character making a trip to Japan to deal with his own immortality. Instead of finding peace and tranquility, Logan ends up fighting a whole new legion of deadly foes. Hugh Jackman, Will Yun Lee, Svetlana Khodchenkova, and Hiroyuki Sanada star.
