Glee’s Chord Overstreet Dedicates Song To Cory Monteith
The cast of Glee have been finding different ways to mourn the loss of cast mate and family member Cory Monteith. Monteith was found dead in his hotel room in Vancouver on July 13.
Following his death, the cast has received an outpouring of support and love from industry people to their passionate fan base. Days after his death was announced Glee cast mates took to Twitter to express their deepest sorrows about Monteith’s passing.
Chord Overstreet dedicated a baseball game to his friend, and now has also made a tribute the best way he knows how, in the form of a song. Overstreet played The Roxy in Los Angeles on July 20. It was there that he dedicated an original song to Monteith.
Before Chord sang the song, he announced: “I wasn’t going to play this but I’ve recently been through a lot of stuff with losing a really, really dear friend of mine. I want to play this song for him. This is for you Cory.”
Overstreet wasn’t the only Glee cast mate at The Roxy. It’s reported that Jenna Ushkowitz, Kevin McHale, and Dianna Agron were all in attendance to support Overstreet. Agon and Ushkowitz were said to be in tears throughout the performance to Cory Monteith. Later on the group posed for a photo.
In addition, Dianna Agron gave a personal statement about Monteith’s passing, having said:
“I have never lost a friend. In this difficult time, I am leaning on all of the wonderful memories we shared with Cory, how many ways he was able to make us smile. Glee was a gift to all of us. It gave us a family in this industry. We really cut our teeth and grew up on this show. In playing underdogs, we learned that we had dug into the hearts of our viewers and that we could stay there.”
Glee’s fifth season will go on without Cory Monteith by paying tribute to the actor, and the character Finn Hudson. Creator and head writer Ryan Murphy has revealed that the episode will be the third episode to air.
