Ultron might make his debut in Captain America: The Winter Solider before taking on Marvel’s superhero team in Joss Whedon’s Avengers: Age of Ultron.
Comic-Con 2013 was a big event for Marvel fans, if for no other reason that Joss Whedon’s surprise reveal that Ultron will be the main antagonist in the upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron. In the comics, Ultron is a robotic creation of Henry Pym, the Avenger known as Giant Man and Yellowjacket.
But there’s a possibility that the character might get an early introduction in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. All of Marvel’s Avenger film properties share the same fictional universe, and various directors have used this to their advantage in order to introduce characters early.
Some have hypothesized that Ultron will appear in Captain America: The Winter Soldier due to a major hint dropped by co-director Joe Russo.
“There’s a very strong connection in the narrative between the events of the end of Marvel’s The Avengers that drive this film [Captain America: The Winter Soldier] and there’s a very strong hand off to The Avengers: Age of Ultron at the end of this movie. And Kevin Feige’s whole thing is that this is the biggest bridge of all of Phase 2 movies; it really is. It does involve the most amount of Avengers of any of the films in Phase 2, and it has sort of a, you know, there’s a very big shift in the universe at the end of this movie.”
In light of this, it seems pretty likely that Ultron will somehow be introduced in Captain America’s next outing , but we’ll all have to wait until it’s released on April 4, 2014 to know for sure.
What’s more interesting to me is that Ultron’s appearance might also tie into Phase Three’s Ant Man, especially given the time travel aspect of the comic series Age of Ultron and the rumor that the Edgar Wright film will focus on a 60s version of Henry Pym as well as a present-day Ant Man.
Avengers: Age of Ultron has an expected release date of May 1, 2015. How do you think they’ll introduce Ultron in Captain America: The Winter Soldier?
