Nicolas Cage Says ‘Expendables 3’ Role ‘Highly Unlikely’
Nicolas Cage probably won’t have a role in Expendables 3.
Although rumors suggested that the Wicker Man star was in talks for a part in the upcoming sequel, Cage revealed that he hasn’t had any conversations with Sylvester Stallone. Fans who were hoping to see him team-up with a legion of action heroes should probably stop holding their breath right now.
“I have not had any formal discussions about [Expendables 3]. I’m not in Kick-Ass 2 and I don’t think I’m in Expendables 3. And I like those guys, but I would say it would be highly unlikely that I’d be in that movie,” Nicolas Cage recently told Screen Rant.
The actor’s recent revelation contradicts Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer’s claim that the studio was in “advanced negotiations” with Cage, Jackie Chan, Wesley Snipes, and Milla Jovovich for roles in Expendables 3.
Right now it’s a little hard to separate fact from fiction when discussing the upcoming sequel. A ton of names have been kicked around since the project was announced, though very few have been confirmed as of this writing.
Not too long ago that both Steven Seagal and Mel Gibson were signing on for the Expendables sequel. However, these reports came from unconfirmed sources and were sketchy at best. Right now, it seems only the principle players from the previous installments will be returning for the follow-up.
Nicolas Cage fans still have quite a few projects to get excited about. The actor is currently attached to Paco Cabezas’ Tokarev, David Gordon Green’s Joe, and the reboot of the Left Behind franchise. There’s also a possibility that he could return for National Treasure 3.
Cage can be found next in writer-director Scott Walker’s The Frozen Ground. The film, which co-stars John Cusack and Vanessa Hudgens, is set to hit theaters and VOD on August 23.
