‘Avengers: Age Of Ultron’: Villain To Get New Origin Story

Avengers: Age Of Ultron will have Ultron getting a new origin story!

It was announced yesterday that the sequel to The Avengers would be called Avengers: Age Of Ultron, as previously reported by The Inquisitr . Speculation arose from that announcement that certain characters would be showing up after all, as the comics gave Ultron a particularly tricky origin story, given the characters available in Marvel’s “second wave.”

In the comics, Hank Pym , AKA Ant Man, had created Ultron as a sentient robot, but accidentally programmed his darker personality into the robot and created a villain bent on destroying humanity. When Ultron began creating his own robot army, one of them was sent to the Avengers headquarters, where The Wasp encountered him, calling him a vision, and in the end the Avengers convinced Vision to help them.

The problem with this origin story is that Ant Man and The Wasp aren’t being planned until Marvel’s “third wave,” making Avengers: Age Of Ultron require a different origin story for the villain.

Joss Whedon explained at SDCC 2013 about Ultron in Avengers: Age Of Ultron:

“Well, because there was a book called ‘Age of Ultron’ quite recently, a lot of people have assumed that is what we’re doing, but that is not the case. We’re doing our own version of the origin story for Ultron. In the origin story, there was Hank Pym, so a lot of people assumed that he will be in the mix. He’s not. We’re basically taking the things from the comics for the movies that we need and can use. A lot of stuff has to fall by the wayside.”

In a way, Joss Whedon summed up the very reason a lot of movies based on other media end up changing the story. Sometimes the film just ends up going a different direction for reasons outside the director’s control.

Speculation now points to Tony Stark being the creator of Ultron, as Joss Whedon pointed out that the villain would find a new origin story within the existing cast. It could be that in the process of reinventing his armor after Iron Man 3, Tony Stark created Ultron as a backup plan that went seriously wrong.

What do you think is the new origin story for the villain in Avengers: Age Of Ultron?
