Avengers: Age of Ultron may feature Vin Diesel as the robot called Vision, and that may be a bad idea.
When I heard the combined news that the sequel to the blockbuster Marvel film would have Ultron in it and Vin Diesel may be playing Vision, I looked some things up and was immediately filled with dread.
Vision is a member of the Avengers, a robot invented by Ultron who apparently went rogue when he encountered The Wasp and was convinced to fight alongside the team. As previously reported by The Inquisitr , Ultron himself was created by Hank Pym, a character who, like The Wasp, might not even be introduced until Marvel’s “third wave.” Ultron himself is surrounded by a storyline that will need to be changed drastically in order to work in Avengers: Age of Ultron , unless Ant Man and The Wasp are only in their human forms at this point.
The dread I felt came from the parallel I drew to the casting of fellow tough-guy actor Arnold Schwarzenegger as Mr. Freeze. Vin Diesel may be a great guy and all, but the idea of him playing a major comic book super hero, especially in Avengers: Age of Ultron , just doesn’t sit right for me. Of course, he might surprise me and end up being perfect for the role, like Chris Evans did with Captain America: The First Avenger .
Vin Diesel has always struck me as the kind of actor who has to play the lead role, aside from the one he played in Saving Private Ryan . It’s hard for me to believe he can stay in the background and just play along as someone else takes control. Schwarzenegger couldn’t do it in Batman & Robin , and he practically ruined what was left of the film.
To Vin Diesel’s credit, though, he never relied on one-liners and over-acting to steal the show. As also previously reported by The Inquisitr , Vin Diesel says he feels guilty playing the role that made him famous, Riddick. This tells me he’s willing to work outside his comfort zone to play a role, but unfortunately, he doesn’t appear to have much range.
I hope Vin Diesel can prove me wrong if the rumor is true that he’s playing Vision in Avengers: Age of Ultron . It just seems like a bad idea.
What do you think of Vin Diesel playing Vision in Avengers: Age of Ultron ?
