Jamie Foxx Wants In On The ‘Spawn’ Reboot
Jamie Foxx said he wouldn’t mind tackling the lead role in a reboot of Todd McFarlane’s Spawn.
Although John Leguizamo and Black Dynamite star Michael Jai White turned in memorable performances in Mark A.Z. Dippe’s 1997 adaptation, the movie wasn’t what fans of the comic book were looking for at the time. If there’s one property that needs a reboot, it’s certainly Spawn.
According to Box Office Mojo, the $40 million production went on to make $87 million worldwide, proving to Hollywood that comic book characters besides Batman and Superman could make some money at the box office.
During an interview with Movies.com at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, Foxx revealed that he is interested in playing the character in McFarlane’s upcoming reboot. The creator said earlier this year that an award-winning actor had contacted him about the project. Could this be Foxx?
When asked what roles he would love to tackle at some point down the road, the Django Unchained star quickly mentioned Spawn. His interest in the role could definitely help get the project off the ground and into cinemas.
“‘Spawn’ is one, yeah. And Mike Tyson. Those are two roles I would just love to do. I’m aggressively pursuing them!” Foxx explained during his chat with the website.
While he’s busy trying to land the role in the proposed Spawn reboot, Jamie Foxx currently has a number of high-profile projects keeping him busy. The award-winning actor will portray the villainous Electro in director Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
Foxx is also attached to star as a Daddy Warbucks-style character in Will Smith and Jay Z’s upcoming adaptation of Annie. Cameron Diaz and Quvenzhane Wallis will co-star in the picture. Production on the flick is expected to begin later this year.
Are you a fan of Jamie Foxx? Do you think he’s the right guy for the Spawn reboot?
