Baby Eats Grandma’s Meth And Ends Up In Hospital
A 10-month-old baby ate her grandma’s meth Tuesday night and ended up in the hospital.
Marsha Ann Stevens put her granddaughter to bed that night and noticed that she started screaming just 10 minutes later. The baby also started vomiting, so her mother Courtney Stevens, called an ambulance.
The baby was immediately taken to the St Bernard’s Medical Center in Jonesboro, Arkansas. When her condition got worse, she was airlifted to Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock.
The doctor’s noticed methamphetamine in the baby’s system and contacted authorities. Police ran the baby’s grandma and mom through dispatch and found out that Marsha Ann was on probation and was arrested previously for meth possession.
Police arrested Marsha Ann and charged her with introducing a controlled substance to another’s body, possession of drug paraphernalia and endangering the welfare of a minor.
When Courtney was questioned, she said that even though her mom took meth, she herself was clean.
Courtney apparently didn’t think it was fair that she was cited for endangering the welfare of a minor because she knew about her mom’s drug use.
“I cant have my baby back on the simple fact that my momma has a drug history and leaving my baby with my momma while I was going to a job interview was my fault. Their taking my baby because of that,” she said in a written statement.
This isn’t the only time a young child has unknowingly eaten meth. In April, a Seattle man was arrested after his 6-year-old daughter ate meth from a bag in his car.
Elijah Benbow was charged with child neglect and meth possession. When police interviewed the 6-year-old girl, she said that she had eaten something that looked like a sort of gray rock.
Luckily, the little girl only had a stomach ache and was released from the hospital shortly.
What do you think should happen to the baby who ate her grandma’s meth? Do you think she should ever be given back to her mother?
