Breastfeeding Receipt: Breastfeeding Mom Gets Free Pizza
A breastfeeding receipt went viral after a waitress gave a breastfeeding mom a free pizza. The mother of three cried tears of joy after she noticed her waitress comped one of the pizzas and wrote a sweet note on the receipt.
Jackie Johnson-Smith was out celebrating her birthday with her husband and three kids at Fong’s Pizza in Des Moines. When her 12-month-old started fussing, she put on a nursing cover and started breastfeeding him at the table.
The 33-year-old admitted that she normally doesn’t like to breastfeed in public because people can be judgmental. “The waitress kept walking by, and I was worried she didn’t want me nursing in the restaurant.”
When Johnson-Smith and her family left the restaurant, her husband smiled and handed her the receipt. She looked at the receipt and noticed there was note on it that read: “I bought one of your pizzas. Please thank your wife for breastfeeding!”
Johnson-Smith admitted that she was very shocked to read the breastfeeding receipt and started to tear up. “After dealing with people’s reactions for so long, it was like the universe was giving me a pat on the back. I was too stunned to go back inside and thank the waitress.”
Bodi Kinney, the waitress that served Johnson-Smith and her family, said that she was thrilled when she noticed the mother of three breastfeeding. “I tried not to stare because I didn’t want to seem creepy or make her feel uncomfortable, but I felt like doing jumping jacks.”
Unfortunately, not everyone is supportive as Kinney is about breastfeeding in public. In April, an Indiana woman was asked to leave a restaurant after she breastfed her infant son.
A restaurant manager asked Audrey Taylor and her family to leave after a patron complained about her breastfeeding.
“Breastfeeding is what’s best for my child. I want to do what’s best for my baby. I want to give him the best start possible and sometimes I have to be in public,” Taylor said.
