Matt Sandusky Seeks Name Change

If anyone has a good reason to change their name, it’s Matt Sandusky.

Matt, the adopted son of Jerry Sandusky, has filed a motion to have his name changed. According to CNN, Sandusky is hoping to change his last name as well as the last name of his wife and four children.

The court documents were sealed so the official reason behind Matt Sandusky’s name change is not known at this time. It’s safe to assume, however, that Matt is trying to distance his family from the Sandusky name.

Matt’s adopted father, Jerry Sandusky, was convicted of sexually abusing 10 boys in 2012. The former Penn State coach is currently serving a 30 year prison sentence.

Salon notes that Matt originally denied that he had been abused by Sandusky as a child and stood by his adopted father during the trial. Matt later told police that had also been a victim of abuse.

Despite the fact that Matt was one of Sandusky’s victims, he and his family could possibly become victims of misdirected hatred. Earlier this week a Rhode Island man named Jorge Zimmerman became a target after people mistook him for the man who shot Trayvon Martin.

It’s unclear if Sandusky has experienced any of that type of misdirected hatred but it looks like he’s doing all that he can to make sure that it doesn’t happen.

Are you surprised that Matt Sandusky is seeking a name change?
