Rhode Island Man, Jorge Zimmerman, Becomes Target After Zimmerman Verdict

A Rhode Island man has been chased off the Internet after his Facebook account was flooded with hate messages following the verdict of the other Zimmerman according to msnNOW.

The Cumberland resident, Jorge Zimmerman, claims he hadn’t been following the trial as closely as some, but he surely knew when it had come to the end, and it wasn’t because of the news and riots.

“I didn’t know who these people were and then I checked what they were saying,” Jorge Zimmerman said according to the Providence Eyewitness News.

“People asked if I was the George Zimmerman who killed Trayvon Martin. I got messages like payback is a, you know obscene words. Watch your back. Just watch yourself.”

The Providence Eyewitness News reported that messages where coming to Jorge Zimmerman from all over the country.

After reading a few of them, Jorge stated that he just started deleting everything from people that he didn’t know.

Hateful messages can put anyone in a funk, but those same hateful messages coming from people all around the country for something you didn’t do? They are bound to bring anyone down.

Jorge wondered if the messages would ever stop. He even told reporters that he had to deactivate his Facebook account.

“I just thought it was ridiculous,” he said, adding that he did not receive any threats after Martin was shot to death last year. “I just wanted to be left alone. I had nothing to do with it.”

Jorge Zimmerman stated that he understands people are upset and frustrated but also believes the jury’s verdict should be respected.

“It’s a sad story to begin with but to lash out at other people who had nothing to do with it? That’s ridiculous,” he said.

Jorge Zimmerman has said that he plans on keeping his Facebook account offline until the hype of the trial and verdict finally begins to die down.
