Rolling Stone Cover Features Boston Bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev

Is Dzhokhar Tsarnaev a rock star? The accused Boston Marathon bomber landed on the cover of Rolling Stone this week, and some people aren’t too happy about the magazine’s decision.

The magazine’s Facebook page has lit up with comments. Several people have called the magazine’s decision to give Tsarnaev the “rock star treatment” tasteless and insensitive.

One user writes: “Oh look, Rolling Stone magazine is glamorizing terrorism. Awesome… I will NOT be buying this issue, or any future issues,”

Another added: “What a slap in the face to the great city of Boston and the Marathon Bombing victims.”

Rolling Stone hasn’t commented directly on the cover controversy but the magazine did give a little teaser about the story. The magazine writes: (Rolling Stone) delivers a riveting and heartbreaking account of how a charming kid with a bright future became a monster.”

The magazine also posted a blog post showcasing “five revelations” from the story. The magazine reports that Tsarnaev decided to surrender after hearing his wrestling coach’s voice, that his brother Tamerlan once said that he felt like “two people,” and that Tsarnaev downplayed his religious beliefs to his friends.

The cover now has more than 10,000 comments on Rolling Stone’s Facebook page and most of them use words like “disgusting,” “sickening” or “distasteful.”
