Johnny Manziel Apologizes To Texas A&M Coaching Staff For Skipping Commitment
Johnny Manziel is sorry for his early exit from the Manning Passing Academy this weekend, apologizing to the Texas A&M coaching staff and vowing to act with more maturity.
There were many rumors surrounding Manziel’s early departure from the camp at Nicholls State University in Louisiana. The Aggies quarterback had missed assigned meetings and practice sessions, citing dehydration and illness. But some internet reports say he was actually dismissed for too much partying.
Camp officials have denied that report.
A source said the departure left Johnny Manziel “very upset” and he privately vowed to the Aggies coaching staff that he will mature. The 20-year-old quarterback is set to speak at SEC media days on Wednesday, and is expected to face a hard line of questioning.
On Monday Manziel pleaded guilty in relation to a June 2012 bar fight. After a police office broke up the fight, the then 19-year-old Manzeil gave a fake Louisiana driver’s license as identification, one that showed his age as 21.
This led to police to search Manzeil’s wallet, where they found his real license.
Manzeil pleaded guilty to a count of failing to identify himself to police officers, and in exchange Brazos County Attorney Rod Anderson dropped a charge of possession false identification. Another disorderly conduct charge was also dismissed.
Johnny Manzeil was sentenced to a $2,000 fine and two days in jail, but because he had already been jailed after the incident in 2012, Magistrate Dana Zachary gave him credit for time served.
The sophomore quarterback has rocketed to popularity after his Heisman Trophy-winning season. In the offseason, Johnny Manziel has used his Twitter account to relay his travels and encounters with celebrities.
