‘Predators’ Sequel Might Be Announced At Comic-Con 2013
Is a Predators sequel currently in our future?
Comic-Con 2013 is preparing to get underway and there are a lot of rumors about the convention currently floating around the internet. Thanks to a post on the official Predators Facebook page, many believe that a sequel could be on its way to theaters.
“There’s something out there waiting for us, and it ain’t no man. We’re all gonna die,” the image teases. According to Comic Book Resources, the picture featured in the background is a Google Earth view of San Diego.
The last installment of the Predator franchise arrived in cinemas back in 2010. Directed by Nimrod Antal and produced by Robert Rodriguez, the $40 million sequel found a group of individuals stranded on a strange alien world. One by one these strangers are violently picked off by the galaxy’s most dangerous and efficient killers.
Adrien Brody, Topher Grace, Alice Braga, Walton Goggins, Laurence Fishburne, Danny Trejo, Oleg Taktarov, and Louiz Ozawa starred in the sequel.
Predators smartly ignores the Alien crossover movies. Instead, it exists in the same universe as the Arnold Schwarzenegger masterpiece Predator and the cult classic Predator 2. Although the film wasn’t as enjoyable as its predecessors, it proved there was still interest in the franchise.
Worst Previews points out that the flick went on to make approximately $127 million around the world. Considering the budget was so low, it’s not altogether surprising that 20th Century Fox is currently kicking around a Predators sequel. However, it’s a little surprising that they waited so long to do so.
The follow-up isn’t the only movie the studio will be pushing at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. Twentieth Century Fox will also have panels for The Wolverine and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.
