‘True Blood’ Picked Up For Season 7

True Blood has been picked up for another season.

HBO’s popular vampire series isn’t showing signs of slowing down anytime soon. Thanks to a very strong premiere last month, executives at the cable network have decided to bring back the characters for at least one more season.

According to E! Online, True Blood fans will have to wait until next year for the new batch of episodes to arrive. The seventh season of the hit series isn’t expected to hit the airwaves until next summer.

HBO Programming president Michael Lombardo said the talent in front and behind the camera has helped True Blood remain very popular with viewers.

“‘True Blood’ remains a signature show for HBO, and a true phenomenon with our viewers. Thanks to [executive producer] Brian Buckner and his talented team, the show continues to be a thrill ride like nothing else on TV,” he explained in a recent statement.

Although the series continues to be a big draw for HBO subscribers, it’s no longer the largest jewel in the pay channel’s crown. Game of Thrones is currently the most watched program on the network as of this writing.

The Wrap points out that ratings for the sixth season premiere of True Blood were down quite a bit from last year. Instead of pulling in 5.2 million viewers, the premiere only managed to snag 4.5 million fans. The website points out that this could be due to competition for the NBA Finals.

It’s currently unknown who will be returning for the seventh season of True Blood. Although Anna Paquin is likely safe and sound, actress Lauren Bowles revealed that something terrible awaits one of the characters at some point this season.

“It completely surprised me. There’s not much to say other than it’s completely heartbreaking. But I really will say it’s one of those that I cried when I read it,” she told Entertainment Weekly last month.

Are you glad that True Blood is coming back for another season?
