‘Angry Birds Star Wars 2’ Coming To iOS Devices This September [Video]
Rovio Entertainment today announced that Angry Birds Star Wars 2, the sequel to the 2010 spin-off of the hugely popular franchise, will be making its way to iOS devices on September 19.
Angry Birds Star Wars 2 follows the events from the oft-maligned prequel movies, including The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, and Revenge of the Sith. Over 30 characters from the films will make an appearance including Young Anakin, Oni-Wan Kenobi, Qui-Gon Jinn, Mace Windu, Darth Maul, and Jar Jar Binks.
Yep, the character every Star Wars fan loves to hate (or hates to hate?) is back.
Apart from new levels, new characters, and a new story, the sequel will also be introducing an interesting new mechanic: the ability to scan in “Telepod” figures and teleport them into the game using your camera, akin to what we’ve seen out of Skylanders and Disney Infinity.
Rovio says that 30 of these Telepod figures will be available when the game launches.
“Angry Birds Star Wars was a blockbuster hit for us and Lucasfilm with over 100 million downloads since its release,” said Rovio executive vice president of games Jami Laes in a press release. “We are thrilled to be able to introduce the exciting next chapter in the Angry Birds Star Wars saga to our fans around the world. Some of the most amazing character additions are versions of young Anakin, Mace Windu and Darth Maul. Hasbro’s Telepods technology also provides a great way to extend the experience beyond the app and bring a whole new dimension to the gameplay.”
Rovio hasn’t made any mention of Angry Birds Star Wars 2 releasing on other devices just yet but, considering the series’ past, it would be shocking if we didn’t start hearing about ports to other devices soon enough.
