Drunk Driver Calls 911 On Himself And Gets Arrested
A drunk driver was responsible enough to call 911 on himself after he decided he was too inebriated to drive. However, police arrested him anyway.
Patrick Kelly was driving down a country road on Wednesday night in New York when he realized he could hurt someone if he continued driving. When police arrived at the scene, the 33-year-old told them that he had eight beers at a bar and visited his girlfriend before heading home.
The police officer made Kelly take a sobriety test and his blood alcohol level was at 15 per cent, which is twice the legal limit. He was arrested and booked into Niagara County Jail on $250 bail.
Kelly isn’t the only man who has called 911 on himself. In April, an Indiana man was drunk driving on a highway and called 911 to report himself. He told police that he was intoxicated and needed to be taken off the road.
When a police officer arrived, Matthew Devore told her that he was sick of Indiana and decided to go for a drive. He had been playing darts earlier that night and had bloody knuckles from punching a wall.
Devore’s blood alcohol level was at.09 percent and he was taken to the Jasper County Jail on a preliminary charge of operating while intoxicated.
In 2010, a Wisconsin woman called 911 to report that she was driving drunk one Saturday night.
When Mary Strey called 911, she said, “Somebody’s really drunk driving down Granton Road.” The 911 dispatcher asked her if she was driving behind the drunk driver and she replied, “No, I am them.”
Strey admitted that she was drinking all over and was sorry for driving. She was given a citation for operating a vehicle with a prohibited alcohol content of.10 or more.
Do you think the drunk driver who called 911 on himself deserved to be arrested?
