Saudi Princess Arrested
So what exactly was the Saudi princess arrested for? An unidentified Kenyan woman who worked for Meshael Alayban as a maid alleged she was held against her will and took care of cleaning, cooking, and children in the Saudi household. Further, she claims Meshael Alayban promised $1,600 but was then forced to toil long hours for only $200 a month, besides room and board. It was only when the Saudi family went on a United States vacation that she was able to escape.
Orange County District Attorney Tony Rackauckas said Meshael Alayban was like a “slave owner” and that’s why they saw the Saudi princess arrested:
“It’s been 150 years since the Emancipation Proclamation, and slavery has been unlawful in the United States, and certainly in California, all this time, and it’s disappointing to see it in use here.”
The Saudi princess arrested is one of the six wives of Saudi Prince Abdulrahman bin Nasser bin Abdulaziz al Saud. The Saudi consulate responded to seeing its Saudi princess arrested by paying the $5 million bond, which had originally been requested to be $20 million. Still, authorities consider Meshael Alayban a flight risk so they imposed strict travel requirements and GPS tracking to keep her in Southern California. Meshael Alayban faces a maximum sentence of 12 years for the human trafficking charges.
Do you think Meshael Alayban allegedly underpaying her maid should see the Saudi princess arrested?
