‘The Avengers 2’: Hugh Jackman Wants Wolverine In The Sequel
Hugh Jackman really wouldn’t mind playing Wolverine in Joss Whedon’s The Avengers 2.
Although the characters currently seem to exist in two different cinematic universes, the actor said he wouldn’t mind participating in the upcoming sequel. Marvel previously stated that it wouldn’t mind collaborating with other studios to bring different superheroes into the mix.
During his conversation with the folks at Collider, Hugh Jackman said he really wants Wolverine to be a part of The Avengers 2. The actor said the studios could easily team up for the project to help cut down on the production cost. In Jackman’s mind, this scenario is a no-brainer.
“I’m in for it, I’m totally up for it because I think that would be really exciting for fans,” he explained.
Jackman said he recently spoke to someone at Marvel who serves as a liaison for the studios. According to Worst Previews, the star of James Mangold’s The Wolverine has been pushing to get the character into Whedon’s sequel.
“I said, ‘Can this happen?’ and he goes ‘Look, it’s not gonna be easy.’ But I’m optimistic, I find it impossible that there’s not a way to bring Iron Man, all the ‘Avengers’ characters, Wolverine, the ‘X-Men’ characters, Spider-Man, and somehow get them together,” he said.
While he’s waiting for the call from Marvel, Hugh Jackman is keeping busy by promoting Wolverine’s latest big screen adventure. The Wolverine, a movie which finds the character traveling to Japan, is slated to open in theaters on July 26.
Twentieth Century Fox describes the sequel as follows:
Based on the celebrated comic book arc, this epic action-adventure takes Wolverine, the most iconic character of the X-Men universe, to modern day Japan. Out of his depth in an unknown world, he will face a host of unexpected and deadly opponents in a life-or-death battle that will leave him forever changed. Vulnerable for the first time and pushed to his physical and emotional limits, he confronts not only lethal samurai steel but also his inner struggle against his own immortality.
