While we won’t be seeing a Captain America: The Winter Solider trailer for months, the Marvel Phase Two film keeps dropping set photos and other neat stuff right on schedule.
The latest bit to make its way online is the film’s very first teaser poster.
As far as photos go, it isn’t much. Set against a black background, all we see is Captain America’s iconic shield stripped, scratched and faded. Whether this is meant to be a WWII-era Cap shield that has been worn down by weather and time or a brand new one blown to smithereens by a new nemesis is unknown.
But it’s a pretty neat poster.
Described as a “political thriller,” Captain America: The Winter Soldier sees Steve Rogers continue in his struggle to adapt to the modern world alongside his new partner, Natasha Romanoff ( aka The Black Widow ).
Together, they take on the new threat posed by an old ally: The eponymous Winter Soldier.
The film stars returning Marvel mainstays Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders and Sebastian Stan, who will be joined by newcomers Robert Redford, Anthony Mackie, Frank Grillo, and Georges St-Pierre.
Anthony and Joe Russo directed the screenplay, which was written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. The film is scheduled to be released on April 4, 2014.
