‘Saints Row IV’ May Be The Last Game In The ‘Saga’
Saints Row IV may be the last game in the “saga.”
Some of those who grew up with Saints Row games are probably sick of the direction the series took last time, as it was initially about rival gangs. Now it’s become a game about the President in virtual reality fighting anal probes.
The sheer silliness of Saints Row IV is why Volition says that any further games in the series will be taking a completely different direction. There is only so far you can go with virtual reality, public nudity, and a President of the USA with super powers. It may be fun and everything, but there is really nowhere to go from there.
Director Scott Phillips told GameReactor:
“I remember telling people: ‘I don’t know how we’re going to top [Saints Row: The Third]. We’ve got a mission on Mars, we’ve got a heli-carrier, we’ve got zombies. Where do we go from here?’ But everybody took a vacation, we came back, started fresh, and very quickly we came up with: ‘Well we’ve got to have… let’s do superpowers [in Saints Row IV]. It’s something we’ve always been talking about. Wouldn’t it be great to run as fast as a car, or jump over a building, or be able to pick up somebody with your mind and throw them across the city.’ Things started snowballing from there. We definitely have a mentality of like: ‘Alright, we did that last time. We’ve got to that, plus one. We’ve got to do better than that this time.’”
Saints Row purists were probably annoyed by the fact that Saints Row: The Third was already pushing the limits of reality, and then Saints Row IV went a step beyond into almost outright parody. The Third Street Saints really can’t go any further.
If there is a Saints Row V, it will likely have a slight title change, but more likely there will be a whole new gang involved.
What do you think of Volition saying that Saints Row IV will probably be the last game in the “saga”?
