‘Matilda’ Cast Reunited After 17 Years [Photo]
Children of the 90s rejoice! We have ourselves another fantastic reunion. This time it’s the cast of the 1996 family film Matilda.
For those who aren’t familiar with the film, like the Tony-Award winning musical, Matilda is the story about a unique little girl, who just so happens to have the worst parents imaginable. The parents played by Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman ignore Matilda and begrudgingly send her to school to learn, even though they would much rather keep her home to do chores. In the film, Matilda played by 90s ‘it’ wunderkind Mara Wilson, just so happens to be a genius. Though she’s often lonely, Matilda is a girl who takes joy in gobbling up tons of books and through the guidance of her teacher she fosters her true talents.
Thanks to Mara Wilson’s Twitter account, we know that a reunion took place. The actress, now 25, shared a photo from the Matilda reunion. Of the reunion she described it as a “wonderful day.” In another tweet Wilson said, “OK, here’s some proof: me, Sara (who played little Matilda) and Jaki, who played Amanda Thripp.”
The film was directed by Danny DeVito and based by the book by Roald Dahl of the same name. At the time it was recognized with unique critical acclaim for it being a children’s movie, with a 90 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Matilda even went on to receive a Satellite nomination for Danny DeVito for his supporting role in the film. In the end the film earned double its original budget.
Here’s the whole cast of Matilda during their impromptu reunion:
Since her years as a child actress Mara Wilson decided to take up writing, and graduated from NYU in 2009. Since her graduation she has been the subject of many articles about her musings as a child actress. She also regularly doles out some amusing essays on her personal blog.
