‘Happy Endings’ Star Eliza Coupe’s Husband Files For Divorce
Randall Whittinghill, the husband of Happy Endings star Eliza Coupe, has filed for divorce.
The 32-year-old former Scrubs actress and Whittinghill, a puppeteer and acting coach, married in 2007 after dating for seven years. In 2012, she admitted that she only started dating him because of his resemblance to a fellow actor.
“I still have a crush on Johnny Depp, and I literally only started dating my husband because he looked like Johnny Depp — and he knows that,” Coupe said. We’ve been together for twelve years, and he still looks like Johnny Depp.”
Coupe also admitted to having a crush on X-Men: Days of Future Past star Michael Fassbender. And although Fassbender appeared fully nude in the 2011 film Shame, Coupe said she didn’t want to see the movie.
“I don’t want to see Shame,” she said. “I’m still in my own delusional world that I will get a real live showing of that amazing piece someday, and I don’t want to ruin it before I see it with my own hands.”
Whittinghill cited irreconciliable differences in his divorce papers, and is asking for spousal support.
Eliza Coupe suffered another blow in May when ABC canceled Happy Endings. The show had been moved to Fridays in February after the network pulled its Tuesday comedy block, and cast members had urged fans to watch in order to save the show from cancellation.
Coupe told ET Online at the time that she wished the network had supported the show more.
“It’s a running joke on set when we film something we all think is incredible that someone goes, ‘Oh man, that was so good — it’s too bad no one will ever see it.’ It’s the same as every year, we just never know. The network and the studio love the show, and they have been very good to us,” she said.
Coupe added, “They have given us a chance and kept us around for three seasons. Do we wish there was more publicity? Yeah. But it’s undeniable we’re making a great show.”
