‘The Heat 2’ Is Already In The Works
Director Paul Feig is already hard at work on The Heat 2.
Although it couldn’t dethrone Monsters University at the box office, the Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy comedy still found plenty of success last weekend. The R-rated flick reportedly pulled in a tidy $40 million in just three days.
According to Moviefone, the script for The Heat 2 is currently being written. Paul Feig, who also directed the box office hit Bridesmaids, will return for the sequel.
“We’ve got [‘The Heat’ screenwriter] Katie Dippold writing away on one. We had an idea that we thought was really fun. I just love these characters so much. I want to see them fighting more crime and having more fun,” the director told Yahoo! Movies during a recent chat.
This isn’t the first time Feig has gotten his hopes up about a sequel. Bleeding Cool reports that the director previously got excited about the possibility of Bridesmaids 2. Unfortunately for the filmmaker, star and co-writer Kristen Wiig wasn’t interested in coming back for more.
“It wasn’t a hard decision. We knew during the first one, this was it. We would have made a lot of money if there was a second one, but that’s not my goal in my creative life,” the former SNL cast member told Harper’s Bazaar.
When can fans expect to see The Heat 2 in theaters? A release date has not been set as of this writing. However, it’s likely 20th Century Fox will want to get the ball rolling as soon as possible. If Bullock and McCarthy are down for a sequel, then fans shouldn’t have to wait very long.
Paul Feig was previously attached to direct the Reese Witherspoon comedy Wish List. Since a sequel to The Heat could be around the corner, it’s unknown if this project is still moving forward.
