‘Elysium’ Gets First TV Spot [Video]
Elysium has just landed its first TV spot!
Matt Damon’s latest action vehicle has moved one step further in the world of movies, adding a TV spot to the mix of Elysium tidbits to whet your appetite.
Elysium is an action science fiction film that mirrors the Halo video games (which director Neill Blomkamp wanted to turn into a film) by giving us two separate worlds. Earth is a disaster area riddled with disease and shared by the poor, while the “elite” live in a satellite community off planet known as Elysium, where there is no disease and only the rich thrive. Matt Damon plays Max DeCosta, an ex car thief gone legit from Earth, fighting for the cure to his disease that only the people of Elysium have access to. He only has a few days to get it, and has to use militant means to stand a chance.
The meaning of “Elysium” stems from the Greek word meaning “pure joy,” which explains the society of the same name in the film.
The TV spot for Elysium begins with Max DeCosta (Matt Damon) running down a pathway lined with flammable drums of some kind of substance, toting a small duffel bag, and then standing in a locker room filled with graffiti while he closes his own locker.
Words on the screen say “From the director of District 9” before someone starts yelling at Max, “You’re late for your shift!”
Someone yells something relatively unintelligible before Max gets caught in a room with a heavy closing door, screaming at them to stop. He appears to be caught in a radiation storm or something as he looks out through the glass and screams. A machine gives him the hard analysis as he lay there, “In five days you will die.”
Max mutters something about Elysium and then we see him and a friend making a deal to get him up there.
Elysium stars Matt Damon, Jodie Foster, Sharlto Copley, Alice Braga, Diego Luna, William Fichtner and Wagner Moura, and is set to hit theaters August 9.
What do you think of the first TV spot for Elysium? Are you excited to see Matt Damon’s latest film?
