George Lucas celebrated his wedding to Mellody Hobson for the second time in a week on Saturday by throwing a huge soiree at the Promontory Point in Chicago.
The Star Wars director reportedly invited a string of celebrity guests to the party, which included Robin Williams, Mark Hamill, Rahm Emanuel, Al Roker, Jesse Jackson, Rachel Bilson, Ne-Yo, Hayden Christensen, and Gayle King.
It has also been alleged that Prince performed to the gathering with a 22-piece band inside a huge tent, which had been set up in the Hyde Park region of the city.
Previously the couple had tied the knot on June 22, at Lucas’ Skywalker Ranch in Marin County, California, which was officiated by Bill Moyers and was attended by the likes of Ron Howard, Oprah Winfrey, Samuel L. Jackson, Steven Spielberg, and Jeffrey Katzenberg.
Howard took to Twitter to label the wedding a “joy to behold,” as did Jackson, who played Mace Windu in Lucas’ The Phantom Menace, Attack Of The Clones , and Revenge Of The Sith, who asked his fans to “give a Galactic shout out to Master George Lucas & his bride.”
Sid Ganis, a former senior VP at LucasFilm, previously told The Hollywood Reporter , ” I’m happy that he’s getting married, this kind of wandering guy, who, you know, has been in and out of relationships ever since he split with his wife Marica. I have never seen him so happy. I know he’s got a lot of money now, but even beyond that, he’s a happy person.”
Lucas was previously married to Marcia Lucas until 1983 whilst this is Hobson’s first marriage.
Previously the pair opened up about their relationship to Oprah Winfrey last year, stating, “I think it works because we are extraordinarily open-minded people and we’re open to what the universe brings us. I think we didn’t have preconceived ideas about what a partnership should be and so we allowed ourselves to discover something that was unexpected.”
