Andy Murray Returns To Centre Court On Day Five At Wimbledon

Andy Murray, from Scotland, returns to Centre Court at Wimbledon today as play resumes or attempts to resume depending on how the weather behaves on day five.

There are good chances that play could be disrupted due to the possibility of storms occurring in the area today. Play was suspended yesterday because of the rain with matches scheduled for Friday.

Murray is one of the few big names left in this less than predictable Wimbledon, which has seen some of the worst upsets in history.

Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Maria Sharapova are all gone in the initial rounds and several players: 10 to be exact have had to withdraw due to injuries.

Andy Murray, who is seeded No. 2, faces Tony Robredo of Spain on Friday. With Nadal and Federer both gone, Murray’s dream of winning Wimbledon at home is becoming more and more attainable.

But the Brit isn’t taking anything for granted after witnessing some of his fellow top seeds dropping like flies.

Robredo is no walk in the park for Andy Murray, he comes from upsetting the flashy French player Nicolas Mahut winning in three sets to go through to advance to the third round.

The two have met four times before and have split the results, but Murray has won the last two and they have not played against each other since 2009.

“I know I beat him a couple of times. Andy Murray five years ago is not Andy Murray today,” said Robredo.

Other matches to watch today are:

David Ferrer (4) vs. Roberto Bautista Agut
Ferrer has the advantage on this match due to his consistency this year. Agut has only won 15 high level matches in his career.

Nicholas Almagro (15) vs. Jerzy Janowicz (24)
Janowics is getting attention because of this strong serve and has been in great form during the first week.

Ernesto Gulbis vs. Fernando Verdasco
Gulbis seems the favorite at No. 39 after beginning the year at No. 136. He has been steadily rising through the ranks.

Andy Murray has his best chance to win his first Wimbledon this time around. Will he be able to do it?
