Stevie Wonder recently announced he’s working on a gospel album inspired by his late mother.
The legendary musician recently sat down for a chat with Rolling Stone magazine. In addition to an upcoming album of symphonic music, Wonder is also putting together a gospel record.
The singer revealed he intends to release a song in Arabic. The tune will be included on the album Gospel Inspired by Lula , which was named after his mother Lula Mae Hardaway.
“We’re going to do some traditional gospel stuff, but I’m thinking about doing a gospel song in Arabic. I’m going to twist it all up in different ways, because I think everyone needs to hear the word of the gospel,” Stevie Wonder said.
The singer said his mother always wanted him to put together a gospel album before she passed away. He said the project was something that he promised her he would complete.
“She always wanted me to do it before she passed away, the untimely passing away. We’ve been working on some songs and some ideas. So we’re going to complete that as well,” Wonder explained to the magazine.
In addition to the gospel record, Stevie Wonder is also putting together a symphonic album filled with old and new tunes.
“I’m going to do about three or four new songs as well. We did ‘Isn’t She Lovely’ with the orchestra and I wrote another verse to it. And we did ‘I Just Called to Say I Love You’ — myself and Take 6 with the orchestra,” the singer told Rolling Stone .
The Inquisitr previously reported that Wonder is slated to appear in Marrakesh on Friday. The singer promised to perform there once the blind and visually impaired were given better access to books.
“This is a legacy, a gift to future generations. So let’s finalize a new agreement that opens doors to the world’s written treasures and moves towards a future where there are no barriers to the expansion of knowledge and enjoyment of culture,” he explained.
