Man Kills Girlfriend After Being Inspired By ‘Breaking Bad’

An episode of AMC’s hit drama, Breaking Bad, reportedly inspired a copy-cat murder in Washington, as the crime bore a striking resemblance to a scene from the show.

Regan Jolley was found dead and soaking a plastic tub full of acid  in the nude in Nine Mile Falls, Washington, on June 3, and, the following day, her boyfriend, Jason Hart, was arrested on a murder charge. The pair had only been dating for six weeks.

Hart is accused of choking Jolley to death before then using the tub of acid to dispose of her body. Hart’s family have since revealed that he was addicted to methamphetamine, the same drug that the character of Walter White, who is played by Bryan Cranston on the show, cooks and sells.

Jolley’s death highly resembles the demise of a character in episode two of the first season of Breaking Bad. White, who is also a high school teacher as well as a meth dealer, explains to his comrade, Aaron Paul’s Jesse Pinkman, how to dissolve a body in acid.

White remarked, “You see, hydrofluoric acid won’t eat through plastic, it will however dissolve metal, rock, glass, ceramic.”

It has also been reported that Breaking Bad DVDs were found at the scene of the crime, and the disc that featured this episode was in the player.

Court documents have also revealed that Hart bought a chemistry book before Jolley’s death. Dean Settle, who was also staying with Hart, made the grizzly discovery after he stumbled on Jolley’s body in the garage.

Settle believes that Breaking Bad was a huge influence on her demise, telling KREM, “The only thing I know or feel about it – that was his favorite series. That’s what he told me. I think he used it as instructions to go do what he was doing to dispose the body.”

Hart has been charged with second-degree murder, and his trial will start in August.
