S.E. Cupp: ‘Pathetic’ That Wendy Davis Is Being Called ‘Hero’ [Video]
Popular-yet-polarizing political commentator S.E. Cupp thinks it’s crazy that Texas state senator Wendy Davis is getting national attention for her 10-hour filibuster which successfully (for now) blocked an extreme anti-abortion bill this week.
During a pow-wow on CNN’s Piers Morgan, Cupp blasted everyone who has “lionized” David for her opposition to the Texas bill, which would have closed all but five abortion clinics in the state.
Democrats managed to block the bill with Davis’ filibuster this week. It was cut short, but the gallery raised enough stink that the bill’s voting period expired.
“This lionizing of Wendy Davis, who is a politician and did what politicians are supposed to do I think would make Susan B. Anthony and Fredrick Douglass and Rosa Parks roll over in their graves,” Cupp remarked. “Our standards for what counts as a hero today have become so shockingly, pathetically low.”
Ouch.
Cupp also said that the bill was only supposed to make abortions in Texas safer, but many critics have said that the bill is a severe stepping stone toward completely abolishing abortion in the state.
“Democrats have lost their rational common sense on the issue of abortion,” Cupp opined. “The pendulum is going to swing back in the other direction.”
Cupp was on the program to promote CNN’s revival of the popular debate show Crossfire, along with her co-stars New Gingrich, Van Jones, and Stephanie Cutter. Check out the video below, and let us know what you think:
