Emma Watson On College: ‘That Was When I Realized That I Was Famous’
Emma Watson hit the spotlight at a young age when she became an instant hit in the Harry Potter film series next to Daniel Radcliffe. Her fame has grown stronger ever since, but she recently revealed that it never truly hit her until she went to college.
Watson is currently set for her second try at Brown University. She originally enrolled at Brown in 2009, which she says was the first time she actually felt famous.
“I think, in a way, I was very protected during Harry Potter because I was working all the time. I would get in the car, go to the studio, and go home,” she explains to Teen Vogue, which will appear in their August issue.
“It sounds stupid, or completely unbelievable, but that was when I realized that I was famous,” Watson added.
The 23-year-old has transitioned from her role in Harry Potter quite well. Her recent film, The Bling Ring, was a hit at the Cannes Film Festival and it’s now hitting theaters around the nation.
Emma Watson is set to return to Brown University for the fall semester after a summer full of appearances. She originally left Brown to focus on the release of the final Harry Potter film, but she’ll be back this fall to continue her studies.
In terms of living with the spotlight, Watson explained that it’s more of a hit-or-miss situation for the young movie star.
“There are still days when I deal with [fame] horribly and there are days when I deal with it really well,” she said during her interview with the fashion magazine.
There’s no telling how her next attempt at college will turn out, but she’s determined to continue her studies no matter how busy her schedule is with filming. Outside of her success with The Bling Ring, Watson has also made a cameo in the comedy-hit This Is The End, which co-stars Seth Rogen, James Franco, and a bevy of other movie stars.
