According to Billboard the rapper was murdered in Winnifield, Louisiana on Thursday morning.
Lil Snupe’s real name was Addarren Ross and he was 18 years of age. According to police Ross was shot at the Maplewood Apartments in Winnfield. KNOE 8, the CBS affiliate reports that the singer had two gunshot wounds.
A suspect has been identified by police, but there is no further information on who it is.
Winnifield is a very small of town located about an hour north of Alexandria at the center of the state. It is unclear why Snupe was in the town.
Sources tell Billboard the artist may have been living in Baton Rouge while some previous articles written about the young rapper have listed Jonesboro, La., about 80 miles east of Shreveport, as his hometown.
Meek Mill signed Lil Snupe to Dream Chasers last year after listening to his mix for 20 minutes.
Ross told MTV News earlier this year:
“He was in a van, they was finna pull off. And I went and knocked on the van, on the window. They let the window down, grabbed the mix tape and it was like 10 minutes later, 20 minutes later they called me.”
Meek also commented on listening to Snupe’s piece:
“He was spittin’ so much pain, he’s from the south with a flow like an east coast guy.”
Lil Snupe’s last tweet was for his home state of Louisiana:
“I Hold it Down 4 Louisiana”.
According to reports by different news outlets, the killing took place around 4 a.m.
Reports of Snupe’s death began to appear on social media on sites such as Twitter and Instagram. His manager DH Smallz said he received the news via a phone call.
Lil Snupe was scheduled to attend an event in Farmerville this weekend. The motive for the shooting is not known at this time. Rumor is that a game of dice was the motive.
