The folks behind Kick-Ass 2 are hoping to convince more people to check out the flick in theaters by releasing a new green band trailer online.
Although the clip isn’t as salty as some of the others that have made the rounds this year, it’s still retains the edge fans are expecting from director Jeff Wadlow’s sequel.
The sequel continues to the story set forth in the original picture. In the wake of Kick-Ass and Hit Girl’s assault on the criminal underworld, a new group of masked vigilantes emerge. While some of them align with the good guys, others are gravitating towards the city’s first supervillain.
Wadlow has very big shoes to fill with the sequel. Kick-Ass director Matthew Vaughn created a flick that attempted to do something a little different with the genre by giving us heroes that were as human as the rest of us. Judging from the embedded trailer, Wadlow’s follow-up seems to retain the look, feel, and spirit of the original movie.
Kick-Ass 2 brings back some familiar faces in addition to adding some new talent to the mix. Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Chloë Grace Moretz, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Morris Chestnut, John Leguizamo, Donald Faison, and Jim Carrey are all on-board for the sequel.
Here’s how Universal Pictures describes the sequel:
When we last saw junior assassin Hit Girl and young vigilante Kick-Ass, they were trying to live as normal teenagers Mindy and Dave. With graduation looming and uncertain what to do, Dave decides to start the world’s first superhero team with Mindy. Unfortunately, when Mindy is busted for sneaking out as Hit Girl, she’s forced to retire—leaving her to navigate the terrifying world of high-school mean girls on her own. With no one left to turn to, Dave joins forces with Justice Forever, run by a born-again ex-mobster named Colonel Stars and Stripes.
Just as they start to make a real difference on the streets, the world’s first super villain, The Mother F%&*^r, assembles his own evil league and puts a plan in motion to make Kick-Ass and Hit Girl pay for what they did to his dad.
Kick-Ass 2 is slated to arrive in theaters on August 16. Are you planning to catch the sequel in theaters later this summer?
