Feminist Taylor Swift Account Gains 750,000 Twitter Followers In Five Days
Feminist Taylor Swift has nearly as many followers as the actual singer. OK, so the parody account is still far from Swift’s 29 million followers, but the hilarious novelty account is still racking up followers at a pretty rapid rate.
The Feminist Taylor Swift account, which tweaks the singer’s lyrics into statements about gender equality, has gained 75,000 followers since it was started a few days ago.
According to Buzzfeed, the account was started by feminist and Brown University student Clara Beyer.
Beyer said: “I consider myself a feminist, and I blog about that kind of thing all the time, but I also LOVE Taylor Swift … Being a feminist Taylor Swift fan isn’t always easy, but it led to @FeministTSwift, so I’m not really complaining.”
Swift, unlike Beyer, isn’t much of a feminist. The singer recently told the Daily Beast that she doesn’t like to compare men and women.
Swift said: “I don’t really think about things as guys versus girls … I never have. I was raised by parents who brought me up to think if you work as hard as guys, you can go far in life.”
Do you like Taylor Swift? Do you think she’s a good role model for young girls? Are you following the Feminist Taylor Swift account? If you’re not, here’s a look at what you’re missing.

I’ll be strong, I’ll be wrong / Oh but life goes on / Oh I’m just a girl / Making mistakes that shouldn’t indicate my gender’s incompetence — FeministTaylorSwift (@feministtswift) June 17, 2013
You cry / But you don’t tell anyone / Because women’s sadness is often trivialized / And men’s sadness is downright condemned

Here’s to you and your temper / Yes I remember what you said last night / And I won’t stay with a man who thinks that behavior is acceptable
