‘Magna Carta Holy Grail’ Free One Million Downloads [Video]
Magna Carta Holy Grail, Jay-Z’s 12th studio album, will be available for free downloads to one million Samsung owners of Galaxy cell phones.
The rumors about the deal were floating around earlier this month, but the Jay-Z team confirmed them Sunday night. A three-minute commercial during the NBA finals let viewers peek behind the scenes of Magna Carta Holy Grail.
If you’re intrigued, then Jay-Z is serving up a generous promotion in partnership with Samsung, maker of the Android Galaxy phones that have been challenging Apple iPhones.
So if you own a Galaxy S III, Galaxy S 4, or Galaxy Note II, here’s what you need to do. The Magna Carta app to unlock the album will be available for download on June 24.
And the Samsung Magna Carta Holy Grail free downloads themselves will be available starting at 12:01 AM EST on July 4. Samsung has posted step-by-step instructions, which are linked in their tweet below.
If you’re not one of the first million Galaxy owners to download the new album, or you don’t have a Galaxy cell phone, you will have to wait another 72 hours for the album’s official release on July 7.
Unless, of course, it gets leaked. Heh.
The Samsung promotion is one publicity stunt that actually seems to be about the music.
Over the last few weeks, Beyoncé and Jay-Z have fended off the endless — and sometimes endlessly tiresome — pregnancy rumors which were originally sparked by comments she made herself about her daughter Blue Ivy needing company.
The Wall Street Journal said that Samsung paid $5 apiece for each copy of Magna Carta Holy Grail — which means that Jay-Z has already raked in $5 million for the album just in that initial deal.
