Jennie Garth Embraces Being A Single Mom
Jennie Garth just finalized her divorce from actor Peter Facinelli this week, but the 40-year-old actress is already jumping into her role as a single mom.
Shortly after completing the terms of the split, Jennie was off to celebrate graduation day for her daughters. The couple has three girls together — Luca, 15, Lola, 10 and Fiona, 6 — but Jennie didn’t specify whose graduation day it was in an Instagram photo she posted Wednesday.
Both Jennie and Peter vowed to focus on their kids in what ended up being a friendly divorce process. Neither of them sought spousal support, and they agreed to split child care costs and custody down the middle. They even decided to start a joint checking account for their daughters that they both would contribute to.
The civil ending to their marriage came as a bit of a surprise given there were rumors of infidelity and Jennie openly expressed how heartbroken she was when the marriage came to an abrupt end.
“This threw me for a loop,” she said on an episode of her reality show Jennie Garth: A Little Bit Country last year. “It’s weird and sad, but I really realized through this whole experience how much I loved him, how deeply I loved him and how deeply I loved us.”
Peter has also spent some time with his daughters this week, taking Lola and Fiona to the Skylanders SWAP Force E3 booth in L.A.
He also spent more time with Luca, but it didn’t end as he would have hoped.
“Got a ticket driving my daughter to get her driving permit,” he tweeted. “Irony. Hope she’s a better driver.”
Jennie Garth is opening up about motherhood, writing a blog post and what it means to be a parent and the lessons she learned from her father, John Garth.
She wrote:
“‘Grow cantaloupes instead of kids,’ he told me once. ‘They’re a lot cheaper.’ Also potentially good advice from my dear pop, but obviously, I didn’t take this to heart either. And thank god for that! Cantaloupes are sweet, but not nearly as sweet as my three daughters. However, I would stress this: If you’re even remotely unsure of whether you’d like kids or cantaloupes, choose cantaloupes.”
Single motherhood isn’t the only priority for Jennie Garth. She’s also getting serious with her boyfriend, Big Gigantic drummer Jeremy Salken.
