California Grandma Fires Shots At Home Intruder, Says She Doesn’t Regret It [Video]
California grandma, 72, fires shots at a home intruder, and says she doesn’t regret protecting herself, her home and her husband, and 85-year-old World War II veteran who uses a wheelchair.
Jan Cooper of Anaheim didn’t think twice when an intruder attempted to break into her home in the middle of the night. She grabbed her .35 Magnum Smith Wesson revolver, telling the 911 dispatcher that she was armed, begging for them to send deputies to the home.
When the man, now identified as Brandon Perez, 31, couldn’t get in through the front door, he jumped the fence and attempted to break into the back door.
Just as Perez began to get the sliding back door loose, Cooper shouted to the dispatcher “I’m firing” said Huffington Post, and she fired a single shot, narrowly missing Perez.
The reported continued on to say that Cooper began shouting and cursing at the intruder, ordering him to “back up,” before telling the 911 dispatcher:
“You’d better get the police here. I don’t know whether I hit him or not. I’m not sure. He’s standing at my door, my back door. He’s in my yard,”
Jim Amormino, spokesman for the Orange County Sheriff’s Department said:
“Even though that dog was barking, he still was desperate to get in. So who knows what may have happened if she didn’t fire that round.”
Amorimino went on to say that Perez was not hit by the round and was arrested a short while alter by responding deputies. Perez has also pleaded not guilty to the burglary charge.
Perez’s rap sheet does include other burglary and narcotics charges, says Amormino, and he was on parole at the time of the incident, staying at a halfway house not far from the Coopers’ address.
During a news conference at a sheriff’s substation, Cooper said she was amazing by the anger in her voice and curse words that she let fly in the moments during and after the shot was fired.
The Denver Post also reported Cooper saying:
“I am a Christian woman and I’m very proud of it and I don’t curse, but after I shot, rage took hold and I just blasted away,” she said. “And, in fact, afterwards my husband said, ‘I’ve never heard you talk like that!'”
Cooper has no regrets after firing at Perez, and who could blame her! She was only doing what she could to protect her house, home and husband. And after hearing that Perez ended up begging for his life, and asking her “not to shoot,” the California grandma should be proud!
