Katie Couric Talk Show Loses Two More Producers [Video]
Katie Couric’s daytime talk show Katie is seeing more trouble today after it was announced that yet another two producers have decided to leave the program.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, co-executive producers Kathy Samuels and Ethan Nelson are exiting Katie Couric’s talk show, along with director Joe Terry. Samuels was one of the show’s original co-executive producers. Their departure is just the latest in a string of changes that could spell doom for the ailing talk show.
Katie has been incredibly unstable lately, what with creative differences between Couric and showrunners over the show’s content and coverage, ratings plummeting hand over fist, and a number of producers leaving the program.
The show has been called an “unmitgated disaster” by some TV analysts.
Just one day ago, sources close to the show told the New York Post that the changes have created a “very stressful” situation with “staffing weirdness” and “no one making decisions.”
One rumor suggested that Couric is looking for a way out of her deal with ABC as well, and that she might be looking to join former boss and friend Jeff Zucker at CNN (Michael Bass, who was a co-executive producer along with Samuels, left the show April to follow Zucker).
Zucker denied these rumors, as did Couric during an event on Monday. “No, no, no. Honestly, slow news day?” she said of the rumor.
She continued, “I’m very busy doing my show and having a lot of fun doing it. The whole world is about gossip and rumors and speculation, but I’m very, very focused on doing the best show I can do every single day.”
