Kate Middleton Steps Out In $29 Maternity Dress
Kate Middleton is known for her keen sense of fashion, but not everything the Duchess of Cambridge wears is from a high-end designer.
Case in point: the royal mom-to-be made a round of recent public appearances wearing a $29 dress from retailer Asos. Kate reportedly picked up the navy, knee-length dress during a shopping trip London. The Daily Mail reported that she paired the dress up with a pair of wedges and a cardigan sweater while she picked up some items for her nursery.
Kate Middleton won’t have a whole lot more time for maternity dresses. The duchess and Prince William are reportedly expecting their first child on July 13, a friend of the Duke and Dutchess of Cambridge said. If the due date is accurate, the royal baby would be arriving just in time for Queen Elizabeth’s Coronation Festival, which begins on July 11 and ends on July 14.
But Kate hasn’t taken any breaks from fashion during her pregnancy, even if she doesn’t show it off much. The duchess has been conservative about her dress and kept her baby bump under wraps, making only a handful of official public appearances. Perhaps she may be stung by the controversy over topless photos snapped while she was on vacation last year, or it could just be the conservative nature of Kate Middleton coming through.
Kate has also been busy getting ready for her little one. She and Prince William are reportedly spending $1.5 million in renovations to prepare the interior of their Kensington Palace apartment for the arrival of their baby.
Reports say they’re keeping it simple, matching their demeanor as a couple.
“Some might say it’s a little dull,” a friend told of the royal couple Vanity Fair, “but they love it. I saw William recently and he is so happy. They’ve grown out of clubbing and have no interest in parties. They just enjoy being together at home. No one bothers them in Anglesey, there are few paparazzi, and they love the countryside.”
