‘The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug’ Lands Action-Packed Trailer [Video]
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug has just landed its action-packed debut trailer.
A while back, we were treated to the first successful fantasy film series ever made when Peter Jackson took on The Lord of The Rings and turned the J.R.R. Tolkien novels into a series of critically acclaimed films the fans fell in love with. He gave us Frodo Baggins, played by Elijah Wood, as the hobbit that joined forces with the powerful wizard Gandalf (Sir Ian McKellen) and defied Sauron and Gollum to destroy the One Ring.
The sheer scope and attention to detail the films used made The Lord of The Rings an instant classic. Unfortunately, Peter Jackson tried to remake King Kong as well, and it turned out a terrible idea.
Peter Jackson has returned to the film series that made him a household name, having finished the first of the prequel trilogy, and continuing on with The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. Bilbo and Gandalf have successfully escaped the Misty Mountains with the One Ring, and now must face the fire-breathing dragon Smaug to get some gold back.
The debut trailer below for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug begins with the two on a small boat in a lake as a voice-over says, “Where does your journey end? You seek that which would bestow upon you the right to rule. A quest to reclaim a homeland and slay a dragon.”
We see a group of adventurers traversing the arm of the gigantic statue of a man with an axe. The same group looks out upon a vast landscape of snowy mountains. A large amount of people, possibly dwarves, pass through an underground cavern filled with incredible rock formations bathed in a mystic light. The speaker appears to be an elf, talking to a grizzled and battle-ready human.
We then see barrels endlessly spilling from an opening of rock into a river. Then we see Bilbo laughing in a field of flora.
