Console War: PlayStation 4 Wins, Fatality! [Op-Ed]

PlayStation 4 is winning the console war, and finishing off the Xbox One.

Ahhh, Microsoft, how did you go wrong? Let me count the ways.

When Microsoft confirmed that it will be using DRM to control used games on the Xbox One, gamers everywhere were outraged. Especially after Microsoft’s Major Nelson told us they were “listening,” as previously reported by The Inquisitr . What, might I ask, was Microsoft listening to? It wasn’t the gamers. Maybe they had dubstep playing so loud that their brains couldn’t process what #XboxOnenoDRM meant.

We gamers want to be able to freely trade and sell used games without the console developer sticking its nose in and saying, “Hi, did you actually buy that game? Here, let me charge you an extra fee to be sure.”

Is it any wonder the gaming community came up with the word “Xboned” to describe Microsoft’s next console?

And don’t even get me started on the online requirement of the Xbox One. I don’t know why Microsoft bothered to fire Adam Orth after making fun of gamers complaining about it. They just turned around and proved him right. And last night, Sony announced that the PlayStation 4 won’t require an online connection to function. As the infamous hashtag goes, #dealwithit.

PlayStation 4 is going to be the clear winner in the next generation console war if Microsoft doesn’t remove its head from its hind-side and realize it’s alienating gamers on a tight budget. Has Microsoft even noticed the flagging economy? They’re only going to be selling the Xbox One solely to the rich at this point.

Let’s have a recap from Sony’s E3 2013 show last night, shall we?

Two men stand side by side, one holding a PlayStation 4 game. The one with the game says, “This is how you share your games on PS4.” He hands it to the other man, who takes it and says, “Thanks.”

See, Microsoft? Now don’t you feel stupid? I wanted an Xbox One until you tried to tell me what I wanted instead of listening like you said you were. In the infamous words of the Mortal Kombat announcer, as this console war is already over:

“Sony wins, flawless victory. Fatality.”

Do you agree that the Xbox One basically handed the victory to PlayStation 4 in this console war?
