E3 2013: ‘Kingdom Hearts 3’ Headed To The PS4 [Video]
Kingdom Hearts 3 was announced for the PS4 at E3 2013 on Monday.
Fans who have waiting for a proper sequel can rest assured that Disney is finally putting together the third installment of the beloved franchise. It won’t be too much longer before you can wield the Keyblade once again.
Kingdom Hearts 3 is currently being developed by Square Enix for the Playstation 4. If you’re presently on the fence about which machine you’re going to buy this holiday season, then this could be the title that pushes you towards Sony’s console. The game will be a PS4 exclusive.
The last numbered installment of the franchise was released for the Playstation 2 back in 2006. However, fans of the series have continued their adventures in a handful of games for Nintendo DS, Gameboy Advance, and Playstation Portable. However, Kingdom Hearts 3 will be the first console release since the first sequel.
A lot has changed in the wonderful world of Disney since Kingdom Hearts 2. Since the studio now has a number of new properties in its catalog — including characters from Lucasfilm, Studio Ghibli, and Marvel Entertainment — there’s a possibility that these properties could be incorporated into the Kingdom Hearts universe.
Since Disney owns characters created by LucasArts, there’s always the slim possibility that Sora, Mickey Mouse, and the gang could run into characters from Maniac Mansion and The Secret of Monkey Island during their journeys. Of course, this likely won’t happen. Still, a fanboy can dream.
You can check out a Kingdom Hearts 3 teaser below. Although nothing has been revealed about the story, those scenes from previous installments are sure to give certain people plenty of goosebumps.
No word yet when fans can expect the sequel to hit retails shelves. According to the trailer, the game is currently in development. Chances are the title could arrive at some point during 2014.
