Dwayne Johnson’s Hercules is now in production.
You know Dwayne Johnson, AKA The Rock. He got his start in professional wrestling before he decided to step out of the ring for a while and get into acting. And in the general opinion, that isn’t changing much. He was known for his catch phrase, “Can you smell what The Rock is cooking?” as well as his signature attacks, usually “the people’s elbow.”
Dwayne Johnson kept his wrestling name for a while, as he did films such as The Mummy Returns and The Scorpion King . Eventually he left “The Rock” behind and simply went by his regular name, and began turning into that guy everybody casts in their movie to make people want to see it. For a while, he tried getting back into wrestling, but that was short-lived. We’re guessing someone reminded him that he had an upskirt shot in Tooth Fairy and he wasn’t tough any more.
However, Dwayne Johnson recently lucked out with some of his roles, such as Fast Five ‘s agent Hobbs and G.I. Joe ‘s Roadblock. His muscles and his charisma finally started paying off on the big screen, even though he is still the guy you cast if you don’t think your movie will sell tickets.
Now Dwayne Johnson’s latest film, Hercules , is in production, where he plays the fabled strongest man alive.
Brett Ratner, of Bad Boys and X-Men: The Last Stand fame, has been developing his adaptation of Hercules for years now . After being sidetracked with Tower Heist , which was basically Ocean’s Eleven with comedians, he cast Dwayne Johnson alongside Ian McShane ( Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides ), Rufus Sewell ( Dark City ), Joseph Fiennes ( Shakespeare in Love ), Peter Mullan ( Trainspotting ), Aksel Hennie and John Hurt to bring the Greek myth to life once more.
The film will follow the novel Hercules : The Thracian Wars as it recounts the adventures of Hercules as a mercenary traveling with his buddies when he is hired to kill a savage warlord. Hercules is set to hit theaters July 25, 2014.
